Privacy Policy

Version 2026-08-22 · Effective August 22, 2026

Nerd Motors is a vehicle listing site operated by Nerd Motive, Inc. d/b/a Nerd Motors. When you send a message about a car, we pass it to the dealership that has that car. That is the whole point of the site, and it is the main thing that happens to your information. This page explains the rest.

What we collect

What you type into a message form. Your name, and an email address or a phone number so the dealer can reach you, plus anything you write in the message. You choose whether to give an email, a phone number, or both — one of the two is required, because a message the dealer cannot answer helps nobody.

Which vehicle you were looking at. The specific car and the dealership it belongs to are attached to your message, so the store knows what you are asking about.

Basic technical information. Your IP address and browser user agent are recorded with the message. We use them to stop automated spam and to limit how many submissions come from one connection.

What a dealer types into the claim form. If you work at a dealership and tell us a listing is yours, we keep the store name and location you give, your name, title, work email and phone, and anything you write. That goes to Nerd Motive, Inc. d/b/a Nerd Motors so we can get back to you — it is not passed to any dealership, including your own. Your IP address and browser are recorded with it to stop spam.

Campaign tags in the link you arrived through. If you got here from an ad or a tracked link, the address may carry parameters such as gclid, fbclid, msclkid or utm_source. We keep those with your message so the dealership knows which of its ads is actually working. They describe the link, not you.

What we do not do

We do not run third-party analytics on this site, and there are no advertising or social media pixels on these pages. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites. This site may set three, and only one of them outlives your browser session: a sign-in cookie for our own staff preview, which does nothing on a shopper’s visit; a random visit id that lets us count a visit as one visit rather than several; and, only if you ask for it on our opt-out page, a setting that stops us counting your visits at all. None of them identifies you, and none is shared with an advertising network. The first two are gone when you close your browser. The third is kept for two years, because it would be a poor kind of opt-out that forgot itself every time you shut the window — it records nothing about you, it is the instruction to record nothing.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not send you marketing email on our own behalf, and we do not pass your details to any dealership other than the one whose vehicle you asked about.

Who receives your information

The dealership. Your message goes to the store that has the vehicle. Once it arrives, that dealership handles it under its own privacy policy, and it is the right place to ask about how they follow up with you.

Our own platform. Nerd Motors is operated by Nerd Motive, Inc. d/b/a Nerd Motors, and messages are stored in our systems so we can deliver them, support the dealer, and confirm the delivery happened.

Service providers. Hosting, database and email delivery vendors process this data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations. They are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of shoppers, dealers or ourselves.

How long we keep it

We keep messages for as long as we provide the service to the dealership involved, plus the period we need for support, security and our own records. When a dealership leaves, its shopper messages are deleted or de-identified within a reasonable period unless the law requires us to keep them. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live — including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states with consumer privacy laws — you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, and to have it deleted. Because we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is nothing for you to opt out of on that front.

To make a request, email dayn@nerdmotive.com. We will need enough information to find your message and to be reasonably sure the request is really yours. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

If your request is about how a dealership contacted you after we delivered your message, tell us anyway and we will point you to the right store, but that dealership is the party that controls what happens next.

Children

This site is meant for people shopping for a vehicle and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to dayn@nerdmotive.com and we will delete it.

Security

We use access controls, encryption in transit, and limits on who can reach shopper data. No system is perfect, but if we confirm a breach affecting your information we will notify the affected dealership without undue delay and within seventy-two hours, and we will notify you where the law requires it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the version and effective date at the top of this page. Material changes — for example adding analytics or any form of tracking — will be described here rather than made quietly.
